a Switchfoot Film, Fading West — Austin Daniel Blasingame

I worked closely with the band to capture the essence of their journey in the creation of the Logo and Movie Poster.

Some significant things I brought to the table - a fresh hand done logo for Fading West (the movie title,)
compositing of several pictures they provided for the movie poster, layout design, and the look and feel of the movie poster.

Working with Switchfoot was a pleasure. We explored several versions of hand painted lettering. A large Sumi inking brush was used to create the twists and turns of the Fading West logo.

The band wanted to see multiple directions based on the photograph of the 5 of them seen above. I played around with textures, typography and everything from faded imagery to full graphic environments all with a vintage retro surf style in mind. It was a really fun head space to be in.

Part rock documentary, part surf film, and part travelogue, “Fading West” follows Grammy-winning alternative-rock band Switchfoot as they travel the globe in search of new musical inspiration and perfect waves.
